What are the odds of winning Oz Lotto?

One standard Oz Lotto game has a 1 in 62,891,499 chance of winning Division 1. It must match all seven winning numbers from a pool of 47. The calculation is C(47, 7): order does not matter.

Winning any prize is a different question. Lotterywest lists overall odds of approximately 1 in 51 across all seven prize divisions, rounded for one standard game. This includes smaller prizes; it is not the chance of winning the jackpot or making a profit.

Three supplementary numbers are also drawn. They help determine some lower prize divisions, but they are not a separate number pool you must match for Division 1. Historical frequencies and gaps do not change these probabilities.

Oz Lotto prize divisions and odds

For one standard seven-number selection. Matches are exact counts; a range includes each listed supplementary count. Each selection belongs to at most one prize division.

DivisionMain matchesSupplementary matchesCalculated odds: 1 in

261≈ 2,994,833.29
360≈ 242,824.32
451–2≈ 26,270.47
550≈ 4,496.75
640–3≈ 181.87
731–3≈ 70.9
Any prize≈ 50.33

For m main matches and s supplementary matches: C(7, m) × C(3, s) × C(37, 7 − m − s) / C(47, 7). Sum the counts for the supplementary range in each row. There are 37 numbers outside the ten drawn numbers.

These ratios are calculated from integer combination counts and displayed to two decimals. Lotterywest publishes rounded whole-number odds, including 1 in 51 for any prize.

A prize is not necessarily a profit. Prize-pool amounts and payments depend on the draw and prize allocation; consult the official results for that draw. Past numbers do not change these probabilities.

Oz Lotto: how do the numbers and prize categories work?

Oz Lotto draws seven main numbers from 47. The three supplementary numbers affect lower divisions, not the seven-number Division 1 calculation. A statistic about main numbers should not silently mix in supplementaries.

Appearances
Binomial reference with Bonferroni correction across all displayed numbers. Under uniform, independent draws, coverage is at least 95% for one sample fixed in advance. Searching across different sample windows is exploratory; an outside point does not establish a biased draw. Draws displayed: 100. Expected count: 14.89. Number

Binomial reference with Bonferroni correction across all displayed numbers. Under uniform, independent draws, coverage is at least 95% for one sample fixed in advance. Searching across different sample windows is exploratory; an outside point does not establish a biased draw.

Main numbers only; bonus numbers are excluded. Historical differences do not change the probability of the next draw.

Frequencies and historical absence describe only the selected sample; they do not change the probability of the next draw.

Every valid combination has the same probability.

C(47, 7) = 62,891,499

C(n, k) counts unordered selections without replacement. Independent pools multiply; the probability of one complete outcome is the reciprocal of this total.

Analyse a Oz Lotto combination list

Example: a list with three rows, including one repeated complete combination, covers two distinct outcomes out of 62,891,499. Its exact-match probability in one fair draw is 2 / 62,891,499, not 3 / 62,891,499. Include every number pool in the modelled outcome.

Repeating an identical complete combination does not add another distinct outcome. Sharing some main numbers is different: combinations with different bonus numbers can still be distinct. Overlap describes the list; it does not identify better numbers or calculate the chance of any prize.

Compare 2–200 combinations you enter, inspect duplicates and overlap, model costs, and export a CSV or printable report. If you model a purchase, costs include all entered rows, including duplicates. The analysis runs in your browser; the entered list is not uploaded.

FAQ · Oz Lotto

Clear answers.

Are overdue numbers more likely to be drawn?

No. In an independent draw, past absence does not increase a number's probability in the next draw.

Are some lottery numbers luckier than others?

No. Every valid number and every valid combination follows the same official draw rules. Historical frequency describes the sample, not the next result.

Does playing more combinations improve the odds?

Buying more distinct outcomes increases the chance of at least one match only because more outcomes are purchased. Cost rises with them and the game's negative expected value remains.
